Seattle Public Utilities recently sent out their 2012 Annual Report Card and for the most part, they are keeping up or exceeding their goals of customer service, reduced solid waste and reducing water use. However, there was some great news that partially is attributed to all of us:

Seattle reduced the amount of garbage sent to the landfills by 124,000 tons in 2012 – blowing the top off their goal of a 13,000 ton reduction! The number represents a 28% reduction from 2007 levels.

Although their 2012 goal wasn’t particularly lofty, reducing, reusing and recycling made a significant difference and is something that should be celebrated. And it shows that offering increased recycling and yard waste service makes a difference!
