Greenbridge, a mixed income community in White Center, won the 10-Minute Neighborhood Award at the 50th International Making Cities Livable Conference.
The idea behind 10-Minute Neighborhoods is that people who live close – within a 10 minute walk – to grocery stores, transit lines, parks, and other essential services, can more easily minimize environmental impacts and maximize a healthy lifestyle.
Greenbridge replaced 1940’s era housing with a mix of housing types and ope
n spaces that include a play area, community garden, picnic tables, open lawn and art pieces as well as town homes and cottages.
The award recognizes King County Housing Authority and their design team, led by GGLO, an integrated design firm that works in Architecture, Interior Design, Landscaping and Planning and Urban Design.
